Have A Try At Street Luge - Brisbane, Feb 13.

Streetluge training day - Brisbane

You'll have noticed that we're a little biased toward Western Australian events at present.  It's not deliberate, but right now one of the limits to our content is knowing some people in the sports we cover, and clearly, we know more people near home base.  Feel free to give us a heads up on what you are doing close to your town.  Meanwhile, people from all over the place are into having fun.  Tyler Johnson from Gravity Sport Events has got in touch with us and let us know about the next chance to have a go at Street Luge.

The event is planned for Brisbane on Saturday, 13 February, and will cost $20.  For that you get a chance to ride a real luge, and instruction on how to do it safely, with enough practice to start you on doing it quickly.  Fair dinkum, with the chance to get people who are competitive at a new sport to give you knowledge and tricks you usually have to pay in skin for, this seems a very good deal indeed.

Other bonuses of this day include

  • 3 to 4 hours of riding on a closed road.
  • Stretch sessions before and after riding provided by Hanks Place Australia
  • On-site fully certified first-aider
  • Cheap Sausage sizzle for lunch provided by Brisbane Street Luge.com
  • Theory workshops

To ride on the day you'll need to be 18 years old or more.  The event is insured and held on a closed road so you can see the organisers are taking their responsibilities seriously.  There's no implication from them that if you're 17 years old you've got no skills, but sometimes this is just the way the world works.  Meanwhile if you have a partner or siblings or offspring who want to come and watch you take your life in your hands, they're welcome, just let the organisers know so they can cater.

Anyone planning to ride should bring their own safety gear if they have it.  Enclosed shoes that will probably take some damage (no disk brakes on a street luge), leather gloves, motorbike jacket and helmet.  While there will be some loan gear on hand, if you bring your own, there will be less time needed for queueing and swapping, and more time for riding and learning.

This is a great opportunity.  The ride will go ahead weather permitting, and hopefully Brisbane has had enough rain for a little while.  If there is a need to postpone because of weather concerns, you'll be notified.

Registrations for the ride open on Monday, 17 January, and the ride is on Saturday, 13 February.  More details and registration is available HERE.  They filled the last one to capacity, so make sure you sign up this time, there's heaps of fun to be had.
